In John 2 we read how Jesus and His disciples, and Mary, Jesus’ mother, attended a wedding in Cana in Galilee. “The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told Him, “They have no more wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” But Mary went to the servants who served the wine, and told them, “Do whatever He tells you.” [John 2:3-5]
Mary did not know what Jesus would do, but she trusted Him completely! Her faith and conviction that Jesus would do the right thing, was deeply rooted in her experience and heart. She knew Jesus would do something, and that THAT something would be the BEST!
What have you asked Jesus to do in your life? What are your needs as you read this? Maybe Jesus is telling you to do something. It is possible that He is asking you to give up something, or to do something important like encouraging somebody, or forgiving someone who hurt you. Perhaps He is asking you to sacrifice some of your time to help others. WHAT IS HE TELLING YOU TO DO?
Let us ponder Mary’s command to the servants – “DO WHAT HE TELLS YOU TO DO.” Jesus can “speak” to us in many various ways – In: – sermons, prayers, reading the Bible, circumstances, or advice from Christian friends we trust. He can “talk to us” via the many voices in a needy world, or through Holy Spirit conviction in our lives.
Maybe you need to be a “Mary” in someone’s life and encourage him/her to do what Jesus is telling him/her to do. But let us make sure we ourselves are obeying Jesus before we urge others to submit to His instructions. We all need to have sensitive hearts, so that we too, can do what He tells us to do.
Precious Redeemer and Friend, Thank You that we can trust You implicitly and always. Thank You that when You tell us to do something, that You know what we are able or unable to do. Please give us listening ears and obedient hearts. Help us to truly hear and obey, no matter what You want us to do. Thank You that You are with us, and that whatever we need to do, we can do it with Your strength, favour and blessing. We love You!
