Hebrews 12 speaks about how to endure discipline because it is for our own good, that it seems painful and not pleasant, but later yields peaceful fruits of righteousness. (V 7 – 11) Therefore we need to lift our drooping hands and strengthen our weak knees and MAKE STRAIGHT PATHS FOR OUR FEET…(v 12 + 13a)
Our feet take us where we want or need to go. Our feet need the RIGHT DIRECTION and strength to walk correctly during difficult circumstances. In Psalm 18:31 -33 David wrote, “For who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? It is God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.”
WHERE are your and my feet leading us these days? Onto level paths, or up steep mountains of difficulties, or through valleys of trials? God’s Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Sometimes we might feel as if life is just too hard or complicated, but David reminds us in Psalm 40:1+2 that if we WAIT patiently for the Lord and pray to Him and call out to Him, that He’ll HEAR our cries and set our feet upon a rock (Jesus Christ) and make our steps secure.
When we wait for and on the Lord, in prayers, for His perfect timing, then we’ll be renewed like eagles, run and not be tired, walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:41). When an eagle rises and flies very high in the sky, it can see life from a different perspective. It can see tiny objects below, but also a whole wide expanse of sky and nature. We too need to see life from a clear perspective – God’s perspective! That happens beautifully when we focus on Jesus. Then we can rise out of the “miry clay” and allow Christ’s guiding lamp and light to guide us to higher heights for Him and to walk in HIS footsteps for His glory.
We must walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16 + Rom. 8:4). We must walk in love (Eph.5:2) and in a manner worthy of our calling (Eph. 4:1). We must walk carefully as wise people (Eph. 5:15), worthy of our Lord, fully pleasing to Him and bearing good fruit (Col. 1:10). We must walk in Christ’s Light (1 John 1:7) and we must walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8).
Precious Lord Jesus, please help me to walk in Your way, and not according to my own will, but Yours. Thank You that You are always ready to pick me up when I stumble and cry out to You. I love you blessed Redeemer, my Good Shepherd and King, my Light and my salvation. Amen
