(The Lord Jesus is the centre, not You or I)
Scripture tells us about the Lord Jesus:
“Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” (John 1:3, NIV), and “He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him” (John 1:10, NIV).
Colossians 1:15–17 declares:
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” And also in Romans: “For from him and through him and for him are all things” (Romans 11:36, NIV).
God the Father created everything through Jesus Christ and for Him. Jesus is before all things. We cannot think that God created everything for us and for our sake alone. The universe, the world, and everything that surrounds us were not created for us, but for Jesus. “Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one LordJesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live” (1 Corinthians 8:6, NIV).
Our life is hidden in Jesus Christ. He is the fulfilment of our lives. As Jesus himself said, He came that we may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10,NIV). Scripture tells us that through knowing Jesus we have everything we need for a godly life (2 Peter 1:3, NIV).
Without Jesus at the centre of our lives, our existence becomes empty and meaningless. We might achieve worldly success in work, wealth, and relationships, yet our lives would revolve only around me, mine, and myself. Everything would depend on who I am, what I know, and what I am capable of doing. In such a state, we become vulnerable to fear and jealousy: Am I doing the right thing? What do others think of me? Why is someone else advancing in their career?
Scripture says:
“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God” (1 John 5:1, NIV), and “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17, NIV). In Jesus Christ, we have received everything with which God the Father has blessed Him. Our inheritance is already in force, because
“In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living” (Hebrews 9:16–17, NIV).
The death and resurrection of Jesus have been confirmed by the testimony of many witnesses.
According to Romans 5:17, we have received the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness and will reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ (NIV). When our lives are Christ-centered, we flow in him. He is our source, our strength, and our ability in every moment.
We spread the sails of faith—or like an eagle, spread our wings and flow in God’s current like a sailor carried by a favourable wind, or like an eagle flying in the blue sky. Life in the power of Jesus is easier, and we can rest in him and in his grace.
