“For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.” [Isaiah 9:6]

Today we’ll study what “WONDERFUL COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD” mean. What does it mean that Jesus is our counsellor? Online resources state, “The counsel that Christ brings defies the expectations of mankind and exceeds our human ability to understand…The counsel that Jesus brings is the plan for our salvation.”

Isaiah 11:2 says, “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of COUNSEL AND MIGHT/strength. The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” Jesus has ALL the wisdom and knowledge we need to receive wise advice and direction.

“A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.” Proverbs 1:5 Many people seek counsel from Christian physiatrists, lawyers, qualified counsellors, other people, which can be helpful at times, but we often forget that Jesus is our wisest counsellor, the One we need to turn first when in need.

Jesus understands our struggles and heartaches, our fears, and our strivings. He knows us better than we know ourselves! John 1:14 tells us that Jesus became flesh and lived among us, so He comprehends our temptations as He faced them too when walking on earth. He STILL lives among us, through the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. He is “MIGHTY GOD,” a supernatural, Omniscient, [all-knowing] Ever-present, loving Father and Redeemer – nothing can separate us from His love!

“The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.” Psalms 33:11 God is always the same – yesterday, today, and forever! He sees our pasts, our current situations, and the future – His plans and purposes for our lives are the best. We need not fear the future because He is already there. He wants to take our hands and lead us securely onto the paths He ordains for us. But we do need to depend upon His support and guidance.

Dearest, Precious Lord Jesus, please forgive me for forgetting that You are wise and caring, that You always want only the very best for me and my loved ones. Thank You that I can turn to you in every need that I have, that the counsel You give to me in Your word, the Bible, that the pure promptings you give to me in my heart and mind when I pray, are trustworthy and the greatest advice I can use. Thank You that I can turn to You for wise counsel! Teach me to obey You always.
