CHRIST’S PEACE vs WORDLY PEACE 7. Devotion

The world thinks that peace can only be felt when there are no conflicts, terror, or wars. But Jesus, our Lord and Good Shepherd, provides a different kind of peace than what the world offers. It is a peace that passes all understanding, even during difficult circumstances.

Jesus Himself said in John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; MY peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

The world’s peace is very temporary and brief, changing according to circumstances. Jeremiah the prophet penned this, “They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying, “Peace, peace,” when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14).

Our Lord’s peace does not change during hard circumstances, but it remains unwavering, secure, and comforting. “For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you. (Isaiah 54:10) His peace is a covenant, a promise He will not withdraw from us when we trust Him.

Jesus said in John 16:33 – “I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” And in Phil. 4:6-7 He said, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in EVERYTHING by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the PEACE OF GOD, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

God’s peace is built on the sure foundation of his Word. “ABUNDANT PEACE belongs to those who love Your instruction; nothing can make them stumble.” (Psalm 119:165) & “You will keep in PERFECT PEACE all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.” (Isaiah 26:3)

Thank You precious Father God, dearest Jesus, that You Yourself are our peace, that we can trust in You and Your love and righteousness, as Isaiah 32:17 says, “And the EFFECT of righteousness will be PEACE, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever.” Our hope, trust, peace, and righteousness rest in surrendering ourselves to You and to You alone. Amen
