COMMITTED LOVE

What are you committed to today? Many of us are committed to our work or other responsibilities. To commit to something means to pledge, to promise, to entrust oneself, e.g. in a good marriage; spouses are committed, obligated, pledged to be true and faithful, loving, loyal and supportive to one another, even during illnesses, troubles and difficulties.

In his book “Live in Grace, Walk in Love,” Thomas Nelson wrote- “The power of love is in the sacrifice and commitment it requires. Sacrifice and commitment always travel with love and action. Love looks like showing up with hands to help even when we don’t know what to do. Love looks like stopping by even if we don’t know what to say. Simply put, love doesn’t just think about it; love does it.”

Jesus showed His love by committing Himself to die for us and redeeming us. His commitment is to love us with an unconditional love…a love which loves us JUST AS WE ARE. His love and obedience to our heavenly Father is the driving force that enables us to be pardoned, restored, and renewed day by day, and year by year when we dedicate our lives to Him fully and trust in His liberating love.

Once we are committed to Jesus, we are safe and secure. Psalm 37:5-6 says, “Commit EVERYTHING you do to the Lord. Trust Him, and He will do this – He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.” That is a wonderful promise! We can shine like the sun and radiate His love, His righteousness and His beauty. That is what commitment does. It is steady, safe, and dependable.

Many of us like to hold onto our own problems and make our own decisions. Sometimes we need to go through deep and difficult storms to make us realise that we cannot manage on our own. We need someone to commit themselves to us who will help us. Friends, no one is more committed to us than precious Jesus!

Isaiah 49:15 – 16 says – “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls (your life and history) are continually before me.”

Precious Heavenly Father, thank You that even if no one else is committed to me – YOU ARE! Your commitment is unbreakable unless I reject you. Please help me to be more committed to You than anything else in my life. You are more precious than diamonds and gold to me, more valuable than anything I own or need. Nothing compares to You! Thank You dearest Jesus that you say in Luke 12:7 – “But even the hairs of your

head all have been numbered. Fear not; you are more valuable than many sparrows.” I love and worship You my Holy Saviour! Amen
