I love a meaningful old song which says, “Why should I feel discouraged? …when Jesus is my portion, a constant Friend is He…His eye is on the sparrow…and I know He watches me.” This song was based on Matt. 10:29-30 – “What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it.
In Mark 12:41-44 we read, “Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you; this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
This widow was like a little sparrow – someone who was not noticed by the crowds. We do not know how old she was, but she gave EVERYTHING she was able to give. And JESUS SAW HER and appreciated her and commended her to His disciples. Dear woman or man of God…God sees you! He watches over you. Even if others do not notice you – Jesus sees you! Isaiah 39:15- 16 states, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the son of her womb? Even if she could forget, I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” In ancient times the histories of people were written on walls, so “walls” symbolise the stories of your life. Nothing is hidden from our Lord. He knows ALL about us…our pasts, our present AND our futures. What a comfort to know that He watches over us night and day. He watches over ALL our comings and goings as Psalm 121 describes. He loves you and me, even MORE than He loves the little sparrows which He creates, and which are so dear to His compassionate heart.
Precious Abba Father God – “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:7-10) Thank You for watching over me, for looking out for me, for protecting me, so that when I stumble, You are quick to pick me up and carry me! When I am unsure of what tomorrow might bring, You are right beside me, assuring me that You will never leave me, nor forsake me. I love You, Oh Lord my strength and my salvation! You are my Hiding place and Provider!
