Managing during uncertain times

We currently live in very uncertain and difficult times. Jesus’ predictions in Matthew 24 about the End times are coming to pass. So, what do we do while we wait for Christ’s Second Coming?

Firstly, we need to be alert, to watch and pray. In Matthew 26:41, Jesus told his disciples, ”Watch and pray, that you do not enter into temptation – the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” This indicates the big need of being spiritually prepared, not to simply be aware of potential dangers (watching), but also to actively seek divine strength through prayer.

Luke 21:36 confirms – “So keep watch at all times and pray that you may have the strength to escape all that is about to happen and to stand before the Son of Man.”  Be serious and disciplined in prayer. “The end of all things is near. Therefore, be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.” (1 Peter 4:7)

The next thing we need to be very earnest about, is to “be very careful, then, how we live – not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Eph. 5:15 + 16.) “Redeeming the time” means to make the most of every opportunity. It is easy to become tired and not use every opportunity to be instruments in the Hands of our loving Abba Father. Our lives reflect Who Christ is in us. What do others see when they observe us? We are mirrors which need to reflect Christ’s beauty, love and mercy. We are ambassadors for Him and Heaven. It is an awesome responsibility, and it requires humility and seeking to be Christ-like in all our thoughts and actions.

A third point is to be very clear in our calling. The NLT version of 2 Tim.4:5 says – “But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.” Whatever assignments the Lord gives to us as housewives, mothers, teachers, caretakers, office, church workers or something else; the Lord needs us to see them as a high calling which we can use for His honour. When our duties become an act of worship, then God is glorified. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” (Colossians 3:23-24)

Blessed, most wonderful Saviour, my Good Shepherd and King. Thank You that You are the truth, the life and the way – the ONLY way that leads to salvation and peace. Thank You that even though we live in uncertain times; we can rely totally upon You to guide us and keep us safe. Thank You for Psalm 91:1-2 which says – “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” I love You, my Lord and my Strength! Amen
