Meekness pleases God.

What is meekness? Spiritual meekness is essentially an attitude or quality of heart whereby a person is willing to accept and surrender, without resistance, to the will and desire of our Lord.

Matt. 5:5 in Amplified Bible says, “Blessed (happy, joyous, spiritually prosperous—with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favour and salvation, regardless of their outward conditions) are the meek (the mild, patient, long suffering), for they shall inherit the earth!”

Wow! That is indeed something we all need to strive for – to be patient and meek no matter what our circumstances are. Meekness gives glory to God. When we study the Beatitudes in Matt. 5, we notice that being poor in spirit, leads to us mourning over our sins and over the sins of the world. This leads to us being meek. ”Meekness” centres on God’s holiness and submitting to His will and His desires for us. Meekness is positive and it results in seeking righteousness which we will discuss next week.

Jesus’ life proves the essence of meekness. In 2 Cor. 10:1 we read that Paul placed his confidence in his preaching and teaching, as well as his lifestyle, in the “meekness and gentleness of Christ.” We all want to be more Christ-like. Meekness assists us to die to self and mature in Christ.

What does it mean that the meek shall inherit the earth? God’s promise of the kingdom is a new heaven and a new earth (Revelation 21:1). Those who submit themselves to God, will inherit the perfect kingdom coming to earth. Also, Psalm 37:11 says, ”The meek shall possess/inherit the land and enjoy abundant peace.” Verse 9b says, ”Those who wait for the Lord shall possess the land.” It seems that the meek are people who wait on the Lord to act on their behalf, and those who will inherit Eternal life.

Blessed Father Lord God, thank You so much that Jesus’ example was one of meekness. Help me too, to be meek, to surrender myself entirely into Your precious Hands, so that I, too, can inherit Your Gift of Eternal Life and be a part of the New Heaven and New earth one day. I so look forward to that, and I abandon myself into Your precious Hands for safe keeping until that glorious Day. Amen
