It is easy to become overwhelmed, especially when we have too much to do. It
is easy to become distracted and not stick to the task at hand, or to wrestle
with decision making when we have too many choices.
There is a secret in keeping our eyes fixed steadily on Jesus and not to struggle
with our present or future. As we rise in the morning, we need to remember
Jesus saying in Matt. 11:28-30 – “Come to Me…and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and lowly in
heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden
is light.” And before retiring to bed for the night, ask yourself if you have truly
been joked to Jesus’ yoke and denied yourself (perhaps in doing your own will,
or being too rushed and not at peace) and if you have submitted yourself wholly
to Jesus that day.
All Jesus expects of us is obedience one step at a time, one day at a time. We
can walk in righteous paths when we follow Jesus implicitly. He tells us in
Proverbs 4:11 + 12 – “I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along
straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you
run, you will not stumble.”
When we take one step at a time with the help of our Way Maker, our Burden
Bearer and Helper, then we can say like David did in Psalm 18:28 + 29 – “For
You, O LORD, light my lamp; my God lights up my darkness. With Your help
(Lord) I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.”
Only Christ can make our steps, our hearts and our minds steady when we are
rushed or over-loaded or burdened. He can give genuine peace and calmness
during too many activities. Psalm 40:2 states, “He lifted me up from the pit of
despair, out of the miry clay; He set my feet upon a rock, and made my
footsteps firm.”
“The LORD directs/orders the steps of the godly. He delights in every
detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the LORD
holds them by the hand.” (Psalm 37:23 + 24 NLT) “The law of their God is in
their hearts; their feet do not slip.” (Psalm 37:31)
Prayer poem by J.C, Lavater
Oh Jesus Christ, grow Thou in me, and all things else recede,
My heart be daily nearer Thee, from sin be daily freed.
Make this poor self grow less and less – Be Thou my life and aim;
Oh, make me daily, through Thy grace, More worthy of Thy Name.
