Today I share with you some things from a familiar Bible passage, Eph. 6:10-13 (NKJV): “Finally
my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of
God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against
flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the
whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand.”
God tells us to put on His armour. This means that God also has armour. It is the SAME armour
which Jesus wore when He walked on earth. Jesus left His armour with His followers when He
returned to heaven.
Today, every born-again believer has the armour of God at their disposal. When we put on
Christ’s armour, the devil does not know who is inside the armour. He only knows that it is the
armour that defeated him 2,000 years ago.
When you or I are dressed in the armour of God, we look just like the Lord Jesus did when he
wore the same armour. We may feel weak, inadequate, and fearful, but when we are inside the
armour of God, the devil sees you and me as strong. He does not see our weaknesses or fears.
The apostle Paul, when talking about the armour of God, uses the Roman armour as an
example. If we have a vague image of the armour of a Roman soldier, we can think that the
devil will recognize us immediately. The armour of a soldier who served in the elite Roman army
has been found in archaeological excavations. This type of elite soldier’s equipment may also
have been a model for the apostle Paul when he talks about God’s armour. A good example of
the equipment of an elite Roman soldier is a helmet that included a mask or a visor. The enemy
could not see who was inside the equipment. The Roman soldier’s equipment also included a
magnificent breastplate that even had “six packs”. The soldier himself could be a scoundrel
without six packs.
It is also good to note that God’s armour is mainly for defence. That is why the apostle Paul says
four times in this context, that we must stand or remain upright after completing the task. How
God’s armour helps and fits us: – The apostle Paul says in Eph. 6:18 (NKJV): “… praying always
with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and
supplication for all the saints.”
Father Lord God, thank You for assisting us to wear YOUR armour which can help us to fight
against the evil one. We are armed with Your strength and invisibility when we wear Your
armour. Help us to continually persevere in prayer and watchfulness, knowing that it is YOU who
fights on our behalf.
